- 0
YouTube is enhancing the experience for its Premium users with the introduction of a conversational artificial intelligence feature. The company revealed that this addition will allow users to ask specific questions about video content, with the rollout aimed at Android users in the United States.
Previously available in beta form, the feature is now widely accessible through a newly added button situated below videos, along with the existing Like, Share, and Download options. Alongside this, the platform is also introducing pause ads, which will appear during video pauses and be available to a broader audience. The rollout was officially announced through a post on X, indicating its availability specifically for Premium subscribers on Android devices located in the US.
While the company has not confirmed when this feature might reach other regions, eligible users will soon notice an "Ask" button alongside the traditional interaction buttons. Accompanied by an icon that represents AI features, tapping this button will replace the comment section with an interface for typing inquiries related to the video. Through this conversational AI, users can inquire about particular items presented in the video, the genre of the music being played, or even obtain a summary of the content. Users may also ask for recommendations for similar videos.
According to the company’s support page, this tool may not feature across all videos but is currently applicable to select English-language ones. While the specific large language model employed for this feature has not been disclosed, it was clarified that it leverages information from YouTube and the broader web. This indicates that conversational AI is not solely dependent on subtitle information and video analytics for formulating responses. Furthermore, YouTube will gather data whenever users utilize the tool and submit their questions. This information is intended for enhancing and evolving the platform’s products and services. Importantly, the conversations initiated by users will be automatically removed from the servers after a period of 45 days.
