Warner Bros unveils plans for a new 'Lord of the Rings' film titled 'The Hunt for Gollum,' featuring Andy Serkis, set to debut in 2026

The mythical realm of Middle-earth continues to unfold its tales across cinema and television screens. Attention is keenly fixed on the colossal adventure "The Rings of Power" on Prime Video, yet the property, still under the custodianship of Embracer Group, has two additional endeavors underway within Tolkien's fantastical world and "The Lord of the Rings" narrative.
Warner Bros. has just revealed that they are embarking on the production of "Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum," a film centered on the ominous "Lord of the Rings" figure, who was memorably portrayed by Andy Serkis in Peter Jackson's film series. Serkis, who has continued to thrive in his Hollywood career, remains connected to his most iconic role. In this upcoming film, he will not only reprise the role of the tragically corrupted former hobbit under the One Ring's shadow but also helm the production as director. Joining him in this venture, Peter Jackson will contribute as a producer under the Warner-owned New Line Cinema.
Specifics on the project are scant at present, but its release is anticipated in 2026.
Information has also surfaced about "The Lord of the Rings: War of the Rohirrim," an animated feature taking place 200 years before "The Hobbit," with Kenji Kamiyama at the directorial reins.
